Unrest in Russia

Recently, several photos were taken of “Military build up” in Russia near Ukraine.  The photos were taken because NATO has instructed Russia to remove its forces away from Ukraine.  Many people believe that Russia wants to invade Ukraine and take the land.  The photos show all kinds of different attack weapons that vary from helicopters, tanks, fighter jets, ground troops, and missiles. 

            Many people would argue that war is required for life on earth to happen.  It is hard to say that wars are bad and that we should all just live hand in hand.  The United States navy has a slogan that says, “A global force for good.”  This in my opinion stirs up a lot of talk.  The idea that America is the police of the world has a sting to it.  Why is it our job to fix and Americanize another country when they are fighting amongst themselves?  Now like anything else this comes with exceptions.  For example, in world war two we were called to go and help the persecuted but in other situations where we just stick our heads into other countries business that is uncalled for.  Hopefully in the future as our country grows and matures we will keep to ourselves unless we are called upon.

Blog Eight: Crime in China

        According to Forbes.com, Liu Han, the former chairman of Chinese mining business Hanlong Group, stood trial on Monday on charges of leading a gang-style group and murder, the government-run China Daily newspaper reported today.  He was ranked on the top 200 richest people in China with a net worth of over 800 million dollars.  There were multiple murder victims that were traced back to Liu Han.  Han even was quoted saying, “I would do anything for the company, even murder.”  This did not help the case. 

         In this particular case many people would argue that Liu Han is an immoral man and that if they were in his shoes they would never do that even if they had the same amount of money.  However, the point that I am making is that I believe man is innately evil.  Now before you shut this argument down hear me out.  Since adolescents children do not have to be taught to be selfish or to scream and cry when they do not get what they want.  This shows that from the time of birth we are all innately evil.  So in the case of Liu Han, if anyone was in his shoes and possibly in his circumstances when would do the same thing.  Given the right situations everyman will fall to temptation, affairs, or even in some cases murder.  This is not to say that it is okay in anyway it just means that we are not able to achieve some perfect state but instead all fall short of perfect.

Crime from the Freedom Tower

Four men were arrested on Monday for base-jumping off the Freedom tower in New York, New York in September.  The men were all professional in what they did, however, they sunk into a federal building, which counts as beggarly.  The men talked about how it was funny because it was not difficult at all to sneak into the building and climb to the top when the mayor had recently said that there would be top-notch security because it was the number one target for terrorism in the world. 

            This is a prime example of how sometimes even when there is crime that hurts no one our government cracks down on it.  The day that this story was written there were over six people killed and none of them were recognized.  However, four trained professionals were arrested and are facing prison time for years and years.  The priorities of the United States are sad.  Everyday solders die and are never the headline story but if a new pop star like Justin Bieber goes out and breaks the law reporters droll over it and would kill for the information on it.  Who cares about a rich stuck up kid who sings about sex, money and more sex?  That is what you call immaturity.  Crime in America will always be but when we start highlighting the good instead of the bad people and show them no attention hopefully someday people will have morals that match.  No longer will reporters talk about how some guy jumped off a building but instead talk about the starving child in Greensboro, North Carolina and how we can help.

Crime at the Fraternity

A Wesleyan University student is going to sue a fraternity after being rapped in front of onlookers at an out of control frat party.  The women has said that she is okay with her name being know because she was a victim of a heinous crime.  The women had been raped a month before at a party for the same fraternity. 

            This is something that is trending among many people in America.  The phrases that you should never say, “but she was asking for it” or “he was drunk, you can’t be mad at him.”  However, I would disagree.  In this case the women was raped at a party where she new there was going to be drunken college males that had the reputation of rapping or sexually harming girls.  She decides to go anyway and gets raped.  At this point it would be the males fault because she was allegedly raped but then she proceeds to GO BACK to the same fraternity and gets raped again?  There is not anything more stupid than that.  Obviously, this does not justify that she was raped but how can someone be some dumb as to get raped and then go back to the same place?  This is what happens today when girls get drunk and drink more than they can handle and then have drunk sex with a guy.  Later they say that the guy raped them, which again is ridiculous.  The girl most likely went to the party not wearing any cloths and drank more than she could handle.  She was asking for it.

Crime that went unnoticed

A family in Illinois has stolen a net worth of seven million dollars worth of toys and merchandise from stores for the last 10 years.  How you would most likely ask?  By putting it in the mothers dress.  The family would go into local stores and the children would distract employees and she would stuff them into her dress and then walk out of the store.  Later they would go to a different state and sell the items on ebay.  They made over four million dollars in profit but took over seven million from the stores.  The FBI has arrested the family and they are going to jail for a long time.

In cases like this you wonder how someone could steal so much for so long.  I'm sure the first time they stole a toy they looked super suspicious and maybe even felt guilty afterwards but now ten years later they do not even care and are not even a little bit guilty.  This is such a sad situation because you see people not feeling bad for what they have done and becoming completely desensitized.  This happens and is happening to children all across America.  On average in America every child by the time they are 18 will have seen 80,000 thousands people die.  This is either through movies, TV, video games or in real life.  That is so many people! 80,000 people with four zeros.  Why would people not want to kill or live violent lives?  We have become a desensitized society in general.

Blog 4: Crime in Colorado

According to CNN Justice, a fugitive Colorado sex offender was caught in Virginia after cutting off his ankle monitor.  A fugitive warrant was requested minutes after Hartwell, 51, walked away from "Independence House" in Denver a week ago. Hartwell was convicted of raping a child in 1991 and of attempted indecent liberties in 1996, according to the Colorado sex offender registry.  He was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to serve a lifetime of supervised parole by a federal judge in Texas in March 2010 after he was found guilty of failing to register as a sex offender, according to a U.S. Justice Department news release. 

In situations like this you can only wonder what happens to lead up to this awful acts.  One theory would be that sex has been perverted and is no longer a sacred practice.  In today’s society, it is a bigger deal to lose your I Phone than to lose your virginity.  This is such a sad thing because sex has traditionally been for marriage only.  However, this is biblical rules per say but that has traditionally been the way that people doing life.  How this could help is when you wait till marriage you become more respectful of it but when you abuse it sex becomes perverted.  This leads to gay sex, rape, and child molestation because people get tired of having just normal sex.  Of course, some people would argue that those things are choices but others would argue that when rape occurs of child rape more specifically it is because of abused sex in earlier parts of the felon earlier in life.

Blog 3: Crime at the Ballpark

In America over three years ago two San Francisco Giants fans beat a Los Angeles Dodgers fan after a game, which ultimately led to the beaten man having brain damage.  This happened in 2011 after the opening game in the parking lot.  The two attackers are now facing two to four years in prison.  The father of the beaten man commented that the attackers are both cowards and will never have to go through what the beaten man now has to go through.  He will forever have brain damage and can no longer live on his own.

In a story like this, all you can do is look at how lost the world is.  Honestly, it is simply sad because in the court case as the judge was talking to the two men that were not at all remorseful about their acts.  The judge commented that, "At the end of the day, it was only a game. ... And you lost perspective."  This is so true.  Weather or not drinking was involved should not even matter.  Being drunk is NEVER an excuse for what happened and you are still held under the same law as if you were drunk.  Both men should spend the rest of their lives in jail.

Blog 2: Crime in Canada

In Montreal, Canada a stolen artifact was found two years after it was stolen.  The fragment from a Persian bas-relief sculpture was recovered last month in an apartment.  It was taken from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in September 2011.  Police say that the object had an estimated value of over one million dollars.  A search warrant was set to search the suspect’s house earlier this year.  The artifact was stolen but by whom is not yet discovered or how.  The information that remains unknown is that of who stole it, how and how it ended up in Edmonton. 

Crime is not something that is unfortunately confounded to only one country.  Throughout the world we see that crime is rapid but often we ask why crime is caused and what are major factors to it.  First, in the case mentioned above we see much more elaborate schemes.  Crime comes in all different sizes varying from petty offenses to the stealing of million dollars artifacts.  In this case what most people would gather from this case is that the man was doing the crime for money.  It is unknown the suspects background so it is hard to tell what type of class he was in or where he was from.  Often when you know what kind of home life a felon has or were raised in it can help discover the causes and possible reasons for the crime.  The mystery of the crime is often what makes stories like these one.

Blog One: "Terrorism in Turkey", 2/7/2014, 4:25pm

Summary:

With in the past 24 hours a passenger aboard a plane that was on course from Ukraine to Turkey tried to hijack the plane to Sochi, Russia just after the Winter Olympics had started.  The Airline pilots talked down the man and convinced him that they were going to Sochi and landed the plane safely in Istanbul.  Shortly after the man was arrested for the obvious reasons.  The man was identified as a male Ukrainian citizen and claimed to be armed with a bomb.  Due to the attack, Russian authorities have imposed intense security on the Winter Olympics, which began on Thursday and last through Feb. 23.

Analysis: 

Crime comes in all different levels of seriousness.  For example, some crime could be considered a speeding ticket, which technically is against the law.  However, in this case terrorism is much more serious.  Like the girl said in class today this is a serious issue for two main reasons.  First, terrorism on any level is bad but at the Olympics it becomes more serious.  This is because so many countries are gathered together.  The Olympics are supposed to be a time where every country gathers and there is peace.  Second, whenever there is terrorism air traffic becomes more and more strict.  This would be a huge problem for the athletes because they would not be able to get back to the states or their respective countries after the games.  This would in turn cause trouble for the families of the athletes.
