On February 21th, the CNN delivered an update news about an American woman found dead in Turkey. Sarai Sierra was a mother and amateur photographer from Staten Island, New York. She had always been dreamed of going abroad to develop her photography skills. On Jabruary 2nd, her body was found with stab wounds to the abdomen at the foot of the ancient stone walls in Istanbul with her driver’s license on the body. She was supposed to return to New York on January 22nd but she went missing after meeting a man she had been chatting with for months online at Galata Bridge on the Bosporus. The Turkish police are now looking for the suspect, identified only as “Ziya T.” and distributed a picture of him at all border checkpoints in case he tries to leave the country.
Touring around a country where ones have never been to by oneself with a bag pack is something that people would definitely want to when they are stressed out with all the works and lifestyle they’re having in their life. Deciding on what to try, where to visit, and what to eat in foreign places are very adventurous but on the other hand, is exposing the risk of crime. Many 20-40 years old woman touring around by herself like Sarai is easily targeted for crimes like rapes or illegal trafficking of human organs. This is not just a story in developing countries. It can occur everywhere at anytime to anyone.
