On February 7, 2013, a
press release was released by the University of Vermont (UVM) based on the partnership
between an international Study Group and UVM. In the article, it says that UVM
had an agreement with Study Group, which is an organization known for its “worldwide
recruiting network extending to more than 130 countries and its academic
preparation programs.” The purpose of the agreement to expose UVM to different
cultures and to attract students that wanted to study outside of their native
country. The agreement is anticipated to increase the university’s current
international student body within the next few years. The few international students
that are already on campus at UVM are enriching their classrooms, student
organizations, and the broader campus community. Granted, the incorporation of
international students will greatly benefit the university along with the
international students. The Study Group is known for having such great impact
on partners and their community by exposing them to different cultures.
I found this article
interesting because I love diversity, one of the main reasons I chose UNCG,
because it expands and opens up the minds of students that share a campus. It
helps the students become more accepting of different cultures, religion,
customs, and values. The best thing about this collaboration is that it will
benefit the community around the campus, as well as the students on campus.
When the international students come to various campuses, they are not coming
alone, they bringing culture and different lifestyles. With that being said,
these students can learn from one another. Exposing students to other cultures
helps them better understand curriculum that is based on global issues. I thought
it was genius for UVM to partner with Study Group because it will help them
advance globally and attract a great amount of students there. Diversity in
education is beneficial to learning because it helps students understand the
world around them.
