Blog 2: United States andTehran

American and European countries have caused Iran to drop exports of oil down a million barrels a day, and this has caused a huge inflation. The West wants to impose a new set of restrictions intended to force Iran into what amounts to a form of barter trade for oil. A senior Obama administration official calls this step “a significant turning of the screw”. In Iran when the prices goes up the people start to buy more. They are trying to make a nuclear deal with Iran so we can get more oil. The deal has been in the clear for months. “An Iranian agreement to limit the number of centrifuges that produce uranium, a cap on the amount of fuel in Iranian hands, and an agreement to ship its most potent stockpiles (stuff that can quickly be converted to bomb fuel) out of the country.” It also has been agreed to expose its history of nuclear work, including technology about weapons. Americans think that this will defuse the crisis. Iran announced last week that they would “deploy a new generation of centrifuges, four to six times as powerful as the current generation”. The US, European partners, Russia and China will continue to talk Iran into this deal but they don’t think the outcome will be good. All of Iran’s financial transactions have been cut off and they can’t make any payments overseas. The United States is making it to where Iran can only place the money they get in a local account, for instances if China buys oil from Iran, Iran can put the money they get in an account in China and only use the money in China.                                                                                                                                                          When thinking about how this article interacts with sociology class it makes me think all about power. It is all about who has the resources that US needs but then again who has the power. So Iran has our oil the oil that we need to basically live off of. If we have no oil then our country is screwed. Like one of Obama’s senior administration officials said, “Oil is our bloodline”. Then again the United States is throwing its power on Iran; they are showing them who is boss. Iran needs the money that they get from the oil because that is one of their main exports but with Obama saying they can only use it in the country that bought the oil, Obama is pretty much limiting their spending and where they can spend it. What if China buys oil from them but China has nothing that Iran needs as a resource, and then Iran has a problem because they have money in a place that they can’t use it for beneficial needs. This will eventually cause a problem if it hasn’t already. Just like in the movie we watched in class they didn’t get paid on time so they complained and stopped working. Well they had a deadline and if they weren’t working then they weren’t going to make that deadline but the girls also needed their money. This is just a similar case. War will begin here if the countries aren’t careful. An economic war has already begun between these two countries, and hopefully it will just stay there and won’t go any farther. Iran has something the U.S needs but also the U.S. has power that Iran want. To me though the article shows that Iran isn’t really scared about what may happen because Iran seems pretty wealthy, people are buying items no matter their expense and if they are doing that then Iran must be doing something right. This problem may cause a bigger war that may involve more people but at least it is just sticking to an economic situation/war.
