Blog 1: War and North Korea

The American intelligence agencies have discovered that North Korea is moving mobile missiles around the country. People believe that  North Korea is getting ready to attack American allies or forces in Asia and possibly even go as far as striking across the Pacific. The White house, pentagon and the intelligence agencies are trying to figure out if the KN-08, the missiles, are going to pose a threat to American defenses. Leon E. Panetta said that North Korea is just “a broke and desperate country but we should be focusing on a longer-range North Korean missile, one that was successfully tested last month and reached as far as the Philippines, and could lob a warhead much farther.” In other times they have the ability to strike the United States but as of now they are capable of striking Hawaii. When North Korea did an intensive long-range missile study sometime last month an administrative official found that the missiles are, “largely a success, if you define success as showing that they could drop a warhead a lot of places in Asia.” Officials that is familiar with the missile Kn-08 announced that it could strike Japan, South Korea, and parts of Southeast Asia. As of now there is no evidence that the missile has “been fitted with a warhead” but North Korea did conduct nuclear test in 2006 and 2009 right after Obama took office. Officials say that we shouldn’t worry about the missiles hitting us, but North Korea is trying to make it a goal for the missiles to cross the Pacific. The officials feel that North Korea was just them trying to get a massage to the United States and/or Washington.

The reason why North Korea building missiles is a social problem is because the conditions of the outcome would be affecting a large number of people. It would be killing and/or harming thousands and thousands of people. Also with North Korea in the process of building missiles that can cross the Pacific and come towards us is a global problem because it is threatening the well-being of humans.  If they ever shoot the missiles off then this possibly could lead to a WWIII scenario. With North Korea expanded their knowledge about missile technology this is considered a modern phase of globalization. The article is showing a negative effect on North Korea gaining knowledge because it leads people to believe that they could use their missiles to harm us but they as of know they are just making their knowledge public instead of a threat. Just like when we expanded our knowledge on the atomic bomb we weren’t making any threats but people could have felt threatened by the issue. The damage that these missiles could cause can affect us socially and politically as a country. It will affect us socially because it is going to turn us into a country of fear. It will be like 911 starting all over again but worse with the people. In a political standing you’re basically starting another war. Also the media over exaggerates on the “news” because the more fear striking and shocking the news is the more people will watch, read, or listen to it.

Movement of Missiles by North Korea worries U.S.
