Blog #2: Aussie Issue
In
Australia there have been some serious investigations involving the illicit use
of illegal drugs, what makes this issue extremely news worthy is that it looks
like these illegal drugs are being distributed to the athletes in Australia by
organized crime groups. Not only is it the athletes who are involved in this
on-going story, but also coaches, doctors, and pharmacists. Sports are an
integral part of Australia, especially rugby and Australian football. It is not
just sport to the Aussie’s; it’s a part of their culture. New information and
obligations are coming out every day, the foreseeable future is not bright for Australia’s
sports scene; ''This is not a black day in Australian sport, this is the
blackest day in Australian sport,"
This is
story is huge news not only to Australian’s, but to the whole world. This
coming recently after Lance Armstrong finally admitting to the allegations
against him in doping. The significance to me in this story is that it is only
going to bring forth more similar stories. That is just how it works, once one
story surfaces, everything seems to come to the lime-light. What makes this
article/story unique is that it involves organized crime. I would consider myself
an avid sports follower, and you hear about steroid use in baseball, or recently
the accusations against Super bowl Champion Ray Lewis and his use of a banned
substance. However, you never really hear of these drugs being supplied by
organized crime members. I think that addition to this story makes this case
special in that there could be some serious criminal accusations made as soon
as all of the details surface, and they will surface.
