Education in England
England's educational system is in trouble, and few are willing to take a stand to do anything about it. English students are suffering from much the same problems that some believe face American students that being that students are reviving relatively high test scores, but are lacking real world knowledge to apply it to everyday activities within the work force. Students are being taught to the test and nothing more. Largely this is attributed to an out of date system that chooses to teach students primarily in 5 core subjects but refuses to give them the real life skills to succeed in the work force. Students in England, as well as in America, are not being taught how to think. They are being taught how to memorize. Also students are tested and retested again and again with few beneficial results. "The CBI regularly complains that grades awarded in school level exams are no indicator of literacy, numeracy or general ability..." They are being memorizing to get by and then forgetting the basic knowledge that we need in the world.
I think education around the world is extremely important because each country in this world depends on other countries in one way or another, and in reality we depend on every other country for something. If the leaders in each country are not educated then the world will in turn fall apart (which may be why America is struggling, but that is just my opinion and a different topic of discussion). My school systems around the world think that it is sufficient to just teach the basics: reading, writing, and arithmetic. Students in these systems are not learning critical thinking nor problem solving which is having a negative effect once they leave the comfort of a school building and try to survive in the world.
