Blog 7: North Korea background and human rights issues

Today’s blog is going to be on North Korea’s long history of Human Rights violations.  Korea used to be a peaceful country. Then in the 1950s, Korea split into 2 countries; the north and the south. It was a civil war between the communists of the north and the democrats of the south. In the present day the United Nations formed a commission recently to take a good hard look at North Korea’s past human rights violations. It is long overdue. For years since World War Two and the Cold War, North Korea has threated the United States and other nations with nuclear warfare but there are other forms of human rights violations in North Korea.  North Korea has also violated the human rights of its citizens. One such example is men from North Korea and Japan being sent to political work camps where they starve, works hard, and is tortured with just about every possible form of torture. North Korea’s government needs to change their ways because right now they are a bad stench in every nations’ nose.  I do hope that the commission will help North Korea change their ways. However, not everyone thinks the same way about human rights and that’s sad. I do believe that if the commission and the North Korean government are open and willing to help improve human rights laws and abides by them then it could be a little more peaceful for the global economy and the global politics that govern it.
