Poverty and crime are two things that have always went hand in hand with each other. And both are factors that slow the development of a country. Poverty has always been a catalyst for violence. With crime comes the decrease in business sales due to theft. It gives business owners doubts about whether or not they will be able to continue working with their lives and business' in jeopardy. This article talks about the cycle of poverty and crime. Crime can force the economy into a cycle of unemployment and low growth. Together these two things give people the option of making income illegally or by not having any at all. With a family to support having no income isn't an option. And this is where the small crimes come in that eventually turn into bigger ones.
Lesser education is also a factor that has resulted in higher crime rates in many cases. Having an education can be that defining factor of whether you make the right decisions or not. Of course, there will always be those couple of people who don't have enough self-discipline to do right, however this isn't always the case. Schools are not only teaching you basic subjects like math, but are also teaching you how to live in society. In average, the more time you spend in school the less violent you will become. There was a study done recently over 20 countries and how local inequalities can influence crime rates. Immigration has been a very common contribution to crime rates. When you have different ethnic groups in one area, it is very likely that they will clash with one another. With inequality comes jealousy, and misunderstandings, two things that can lead to death for surrounding people if not handled properly. So what can we do? I think the only thing we can do, is continue to fight poverty as best we can. A little help can surely go a long way for someone and can prevent the senseless acts of violence that goes on in this country.
