Blog 9: Morocco Slow to Enforce Laws on Women's Rights

Morocco Slow to Enforce Laws on Women's Rights

And once again this week’s blog is on women’s rights in the Middle East, Marrakesh Morocco. It seems like I have talked about the Middle East in most of my blog’s, it comes to show us just how bad it really is there. This article in particular touches on girls who are miners, making it that mush sadder. In this article they mention a girl who didn’t even know how old she was, she said she believed she was 13 or 14. She told the police officers a story about being gang rapped but had many inconsistencies, the organization leader at Al Amane a women’s advocacy group, stated that her guess was that the young girl was scared to tell the truth. Having sexual relations outside of marriage is illegal. The where about of the young girl are unknown now. Many women advocacy groups are fighting to change the systems and laws; they want to eliminate cases like Amina Filali when last year at the age of 16 committed suicide after a judge made her married her rapist. The judges being as conservative as they are say they rather “save the girls honor” by having them marry the men who to her virginity then to let them be “shamed”. It’s a sad case to look at when interviewed the citizens say that the women’s place is at home or running errands, some even imply that it was their own fault they got raped because they shouldn’t be wondering the streets. Even some young women who were interviewed said that it’s normal for men to desire women. One teenager even said “The man is never guilty”. THE MAN IS NEVER GUILTY that’s what she said! It’s sickening to read these types of comments. It’s so sad to see how brainwashed most of these people are.
