Blog #2 Global warming and methane gas

Summary:
The article titled “Levels of global-warming gas methane exceed government estimates, new study contends” discusses the exceedingly large accumulation of the particulate “methane gas” due to the fracking industry and other fuel searching methods.  Several scientists from the EPA have issued statements regarding the 50% increase of methane production. Scientists have linked this increase to fracking production. This is due to the large amounts of excess (methane) gas being emitted as a result of the hydraulic process.  They stated that if the fracking industry were able to fix these problem areas natural gas would in effect be the cleaner gas and produce less methane than diesel and coal production.  The EPA stated that methane being one of the worst greenhouse gasses due to the fact of its efficiency of trapping heat needs to be condensed due to the fact that emissions are exceeding the cap in which they put on the greenhouse gas.

Response:
This article highlights the ongoing problem of  methane production and the natural gas industry.  The EPA is calling for dramatic changes within the fraking industry to produce less methane gas.  If the fracking industry were able to get the proper pipes and waste management facility’s natural gas would become increasingly more desirable method of getting fuel. There has to be a way in which the government can work with the natural gas industry to regulate the emissions of methane. If this industry were to get its codes together and make the fraking process as clean as possible natural gas would be the best way for our county and others to use as fuel. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/global-warming-gas-methane-exceeds-government-estimates-new-study-contends/2014/02/13/e4182008-9420-11e3-84e1-27626c5ef5fb_story
