This blog focused on health internationally and how it is
mandated by the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Organization
has been in existence since 1948. This organization conducted meetings between
twenty six other countries to launch a program called the Global Health
Security Agenda (GHSA). The Global Health Security Agenda was created for the
sole purpose “to prevent, protect against, control and provide a public health
response to any major event threatening public health anywhere.” WHO created
this program because many countries are having outburst of flu viruses or
specific epidemics that should not be spread worldwide. For example, a flu
influenza has been spread throughout China called H7H9. As a man named Sebelius
once said “a threat anywhere is indeed a threat everywhere.”
The quote “a threat anywhere is indeed a threat everywhere”,
is important to this article because it reveals how WHO and GHSA are trying to
prevent and control diseases and pandemics worldwide. This article is very
important to note because it affects everyone worldwide. If World Health
Organization was not trying to launch a program like Global Health Security
Agenda, then diseases in one country could become pandemics around the world. Diseases
that started in China or Africa could eventually be America’s worst nightmare,
so it is important to have a program and organization controlling these
diseases. This article is also important because it shows how WHO is very
crucial to not only prevention of diseases, but treatment/public awareness. WHO
is going to enforce laws on countries and regions so that they are properly medicated
with diseases so that the disease cannot spread outside of their country.
Americans, as well as people all around the world, need to support WHO and
their programs, such as GHSA, because they are preventing terrible diseases
from spreading. We need to be well aware of their policies and abide by them
because they are ultimately making the best decisions for the world.
