Blog 2: Police Kill 8 Uighurs as China Cites a Terrorist Ambush. Teresa Lindsey 02/14/2014 3:25

Summary:
The article titled “Police Kills 8 Uighur's as China Cites a Terrorist Ambush Uighur's discusses an incident that took place Wushi County, in Aksu Prefecture, when police fatally shot and killed eight people that were armed with bombs while three others died in an explosion that they set off themselves. The Uighur's (a Turkic ethnic group) has become resentful towards the increasing number of Han Chinese and the controls on their culture and Muslim religion. This all started when the assailants riding motorcycles and a person driving a car that was loaded with natural gas cylinders closed in on police officers that were getting ready to go on patrol. It was also noted that the attackers also used knives during the attack and that the police shot and killed eight people and captured one. There were injuries to two public bystanders and two police officers. The article also states that this isn’t the only fatal shooting involving Uighur's. Last year, there were three dozen Uighur's that were fatally shot by police and there was also an attack on January 24, where six men attacked a police station and were killed. Racial tension has been brewing since 2009, when 200 people died in Urumqi (the regional capital), where Uighur men attacked Han Chinese people on the street. Of course there was retaliation by the Han Chinese men when they attacked Uighur neighborhoods.
Analysis:
This article highlights the ongoing problem that China is having with what officials are citing as a terrorist attack. The Uighur's is saying that the Han Chinese is depriving them of jobs, businesses, and land. If this is in fact the case it is unfortunate however you go through life harming people/property, taking what you want, and acting out. If you are upset with a government official, you don’t agree with a law, not getting what you want out of life you need to find another solution to your issue. Do some research and see if you can start a petition regarding that law that you don’t agree with. There has to be another way to get your point across other than doing harm to innocent people or law enforcement. It is sad that we live in a world and have to wait and wonder when some group, organization or nut case will unleash their wrath on innocent citizens causing undue harm or even death. Life is supposed to be enjoyed, celebrated, and lived to the fullest. Stop the Violence.
