Summary:
A Nigerian-Cameroonian pop star singer promotes and uses a product called Whitenicious. The product is to be used to help lighten dark spots on skin. Unfortunately, this product is being used for different purposes. Dencia, the pop star, uses this product and post images of how effective the product is. The pop star did not only use it to lighten dark spots but her entire skin. Many critics say that she is promoting the idea that black skin is not beautiful. Due to her popularity amongst the African culture, her product Whitenicious is selling quickly and being used for skin whitening purposes instead of the intended purpose. Dencia argues that her use of the product is to show how great it works, but people respond by asking why whiten he entire body instead of just the dark spots. Women of color are buying this product in hope to have lighter skin instead of removing just dark spots.

Analysis:
Dencia being a popular star in the African culture makes viewers want to do and look how she does. Some people feel that Dencia is making a statement implying that black skin is not beautiful while others are taking heed and buying the product so that they can look as she does. The whitening of Dencia’s skin and the effect that it has on her fans, viewers, and watchers shows how people in the entertainment world can greatly influence what someone defines as beautiful and what women will do to look that way. During the first week, Whitenicious sold out and the product continues to sell rapidly. This success of this product illustrates how social media and ideals in the entertainment world can get our human race to buy products and do unnecessary things to their body in order to fit the description of beautiful that society accepts.
