The first step in animal right/protection is education. That’s exactly what they are doing in London to raise awareness to the marine life. In the article it talks about how HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, will join a host of distinguished guests to celebrate the marine environment and the importance of understanding it at a Royal Charter reception at the Fishmongers’ Hall in London. UK science is at the forefront of marine biological research. They know that in order to stay ahead of the game and to be able to answer new and developing questions pertaining to marine biological research that they must continue to grow and evolve. Dr. Sylvia Earle said “The future is in the hands of those who understand the importance of the blue part of the planet.”

As most people know the ocean is a significant source of oxygen for our planet. The ocean is also involved in capturing and storing carbon dioxide. Furthermore, what lives under the ocean is just as important as what the ocean water provides to us. Marine life is every important to society. The animals that live in the ocean provide important ecosystem services such as the provision of food, medicines, and livelihoods. Unfortunately, we as humans are starting to over-harvest the sea. This action is threating marine biodiversity. The consequences of over-fishing and habitat destruction are evident in many parts of the world and may have already damaged the marine ecosystem irreversibly. It is critical that marine species are protected to secure their survival and maintain the ecosystem services they provide. All in all, all animals should be protected. No matter how small or big.
