blog #10 disarmament

An "All Africa" article discussed disarmament in Angola. This article plays on the idea that although large scale disarmament isn't taking large strides, small scale is. There have been other examples of poor or tumultuous countries being forced or coerced into disarmament tactics. Although these aren't nuclear weapons, disarming a country with a lot of violence is equally important.

These types of problems don't necessarily have a large global impact, but the regional effects and the bad things that happen to the citizens of the country are bad, too. There aren't large - scale conferences for this type of disarmament but they happen anyway. The idea of this type of disarmament is really crucial to have a peaceful world.

This particular instance in Angola, however, is really important. There is a committee for citizen disarmament and this program in Angola started six year ago even though it was only set up for two. The program worked so well that over 89,000 weapons have been seized. If this type of disarmament could happen on a larger scale with nuclear weapons, the world would be a much better place.
