Today’s society is very much overrun with technology that it was always just a matter of time before the educational environments were overrun with it too. An article put out today mentions that soon Facebook and other technology based social networks will be used in the classroom. We already use a lot of technological resources within classroom, but what would change if schools continued on this path and technology took over the classrooms?
If technology takes over some small colleges would be switched over strictly to virtual classrooms, teachers would lose their jobs, and the one-on-one learning environments would be out of the norm. At the same time, students would be able to engage with others on a more global level, work on their own time in this fast paced world, and be exposed to different technological resources. As a student, technology is a great tool and has many advantages, however if the classroom environment is lost many students that learn better in a classroom setting will struggle greatly.
Some students say that they think there is not enough technology used. “60 percent of students say their technology expectations are still not being met.” I can agree with this statement, nonetheless I am skeptical on technology taking over. Being able to do assignments and exams online is very beneficial; because many student have test-anxiety and this is a good way to ease that. Although, classrooms going completely online would seem appealing at first, but in the end be more hurtful than helpful. My perspective is that colleges should take advantages of technology but do not overdo it. Technology is a good thing, but too much of a good thing.... is a bad thing!
