Blog #4: Ukraine and Russia involvement.

Summery
This past week Ukraine’s President Viktor Yankovych was pushed out of office. Though he still insists that he his Ukraine’s leader the country it self is in turmoil. Thursday dozens of armed men seized the government admissive buildings in a southern area of Ukraine known as Crimes. After the seizure they raised a Russian flag as an opposition to the new leader in favor of ousted the presidents continued attempts to rule. This is a result of the dived among the people in the direction they want to go. Those who support the developments in Kiev, ousting the president, and those who back Russia influence of the country. Russia has housed the ousted president and supports him. The Ukraine has been in political upheaval for the past due to this divide. What started as a international trade deal with eastern Europe may end in secession and revolution.
Analysis
Ukraine is experiencing Dependency Theory. Their market and supplies are deeply reliant on Russia. Russia’s threat to up oil prices if the trade deal was sign by Yankovych sent Ukraine into a frenzy. Ukraine’s dependency has been brought on by their isolation from the trade from the rest of the world as well as exploitation and domination. Ukraine was once part of Russia before the dispansion of the Soviet Union. The newly independent state was not truly independent. The terms of trade between Russia and Ukraine are bad, but they are hopelessly at the mercy of Russia vast wealth and connections. The botched trade deal shows just how tight Russia’s hold is on Ukraine and its resources.
